A Letter from ‘Places Victoria’ to Friends of HGW, regarding the CSIRO Site in Highett
“Places Victoria (PV) is currently in negotiations with CSIRO for future acquisition but as yet does not own the site. Notwithstanding, PV is in the early stages of investigating the site for future residential mixed-use development in accordance with the organisations strategic focus of facilitating urban renewal for residential and mixed-use purposes within established areas of melbourne and strategic locations in regional Victoria.”
Below is a copy of the complete letter (April 2012)

How much weight does the Bayside Council Open Space Strategy have in relation to passive open space?
Does the State Planning Dept (Places Victoria) direct how many hectares the Council can utilise? If so, we are being directed away from the more important act of gaining the 3-4 hectares in the first place.
The Federal Government has the ability and possibly the authority to excise the 3-4 hectares FIRST, then there will not be argument with the State Government as the remainder of the CSIRO land is left to the developers. The Council can properly conserve the passive open space for all without State Government interference.
